American Cancer Society 2012 Duneland Relay for Life Kickoff Event February 6th 7:00 p.m. Monday
The entire Duneland Community is invited to attend the kickoff for the 2012 Relay For Life. We have a great committee that is striving to make this year’s Relay a true Community event. The Kick-Off of the Relay Season will be a Pizza Party at the Chesterton Middle School Cafeteria on hosted by the 2012 Duneland Relay Committee. Join us for some good food donated by area restaurants and an opportunity to learn about Relay and how you can be a part of it! Chesterton Dunes Kankakee Chesterton Dunes Kankakee Trail Visioning Meeting February 9th 6:30 Thursday
The Chesterton Dunes Kankakee Trail Steering Committee and SEH of Indiana will host a Visioning Meeting to gather public opinion on the proposed Dunes Kankakee Trail through Chesterton. The meeting will be at Chesterton’s Town Hall. All interested parties are invited to come learn about and weigh in on the proposed trail. This public meeting is part of a broader Trail Corridor Feasibility Study for Chesterton conducted by SEH of Indiana to identify a preferred alignment for the town’s portion of Dunes Kankakee Trail. The Dunes Kankakee Trail is a proposed north-south multi-use trail linking Indiana Dunes State Park and the Kankakee River. The study will identify rights of way needs, areas of concern, cultural and natural resources, and required permits and costs, and will serve as a resource for eventual engineering design. Porter Health System Heart-Health Awareness Programs February 9th, 16th & 23rd Thursdays
Please join Porter Health System in celebration of American Heart Month, and attend a series of heart-healthy programs to help educate the community on the prevention and treatment of heart disease – the leading cause of death of both men and women according to the American Heart Association. On February 9th, at 6:00 p.m. Cardiologist Dr. Daniel Linert will help participants learn what their cholesterol, LDL (bad cholesterol) and HDL (good cholesterol) mean and how to reduce their risk for heart disease. On February 16th at 6:00 p.m., Cardiologist Dr. Sandeep Sehgal will share more about how PAD is diagnosed and the best treatment options. On February 23rd,at 6:00 p.m. Cardiac Electrophysiologist Dr. Mark Dixon will explain how A-fib is diagnosed and when to seek medical treatment. These programs are free and refreshments will be provided. They will all be held at Education & Rehabilitation Campus, 1401 Calumet Ave. in Valparaiso. Register by calling 1-800-541-1861.

Chesterton United Methodist Church Mom's Morning Out Friday Mornings 9:00-11:30 a.m.
Mom’s Morning Out is a great program that will be held at Chesterton United Methodist Church at 434 2nd Street, every Friday, now-April. It is a program that allows you time for doctor appointments, haircuts, shopping, whatever you need to do while your children play, hear a Bible story, sing songs with guitar and drums, make a craft and share a snack. They are cared for in a safe and loving environment. This program is especially for children ages 18 months to 5 years old. The cost is $28 per month for one child and $48 for two children. The Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County Senior Moments Presentation: "Healthy Hearts" February 10th & 27th Friday & Monday
The Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County will present "Healthy Hearts" at locations in Lake and Porter counties in February. This program will provide attendees with simple and practical measures aimed at reducing the risk of heart disease and heart attack. The importance of a healthy lifestyle and seeking healthcare assistance when appropriate will be emphasized as it relates to Healthy Hearts. The dates and times the programs are as follows: February 10th 12:15 p.m. Village Park Enrichment Center at Banta in Valparaiso(605 Beech Street);February 27 1:30 p.m. Linden House in Hobart(360 E. 61st Ave.) Participants will receive a free gift and a healthy snack. "Senior Moments" is a monthly lecture series designed for seniors who take an active role in their own health care. Topics change monthly. Porter County Parks & Recreation Camp FUNset! February 11th 9:00-10:00 a.m. Saturday
The first Club FUNset will take place at Sunset Hill Farm. Kids, ages 6-12, will have the chance to participate in hikes, outdoor adventures, arts and crafts, songs and a variety of other activities. The cost of the program is $2 per child. Rizer said parents and kids have already expressed their excitement about Club FUNset, along with plans for enhancements to Camp FUNset this summer. A free program will take place each month immediately after Club FUNset called "Meet Farmer Ryan", during which Porter County Parks and Recreation Farm Educator Ryan Wilson will introduce kids to the goats and chickens at Sunset Hill Farm. Participants will get hands-on experience taking care of the animals and learn about the work that goes into managing a farm. The Chesterton Lions Club will present their 5th Annual Little Sweetheart Swirl-Daddy/Daughter Dance. This year it will be held at the Westchester Intermediate School, at 1050 South 5th Street. Best Buddies Pet Pantry in Chesterton is collecting items for pets in need. All donated items must be new and not expired. The items most needed are: dog and cat food, dog biscuits and cat treats, plastic shopping bags, re-sealable gallon/quart size bags, gently used collars and leashes and cat litter.
